How to Care for Your Leather Flogger

A well-made leather flogger can last decades — but only if you care for it properly. Here is everything you need to know to keep your handcrafted piece in perfect condition.

After Every Use

Wipe down the falls and handle with a clean, dry cloth. Remove any moisture, oils, or residue. Do not use harsh chemical cleaners — they will dry out and crack the leather over time.

Conditioning the Leather

Leather needs to be conditioned regularly to stay supple and prevent cracking. Every few months — or more often if you use your flogger frequently — apply a quality leather conditioner to the falls.

Good options include:

  • Leather Honey
  • Bick 4 Leather Conditioner
  • Neatsfoot oil (pure, not compound)

Apply sparingly with a soft cloth, work it in gently, and let it absorb before use. Do not over-condition — too much oil can make falls heavy and slippery.

Storage

Store your flogger hanging or laid flat — never coiled tight for long periods. Tight coiling can permanently set a curl in the falls and damage the leather over time.

Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat, which dry out leather quickly. A cool, dry place is ideal — a toy bag or a dedicated hook works great.

The Handle

Our aluminum handles need almost no maintenance — just wipe clean after use. Rubber handles are similarly low-maintenance. If your handle has a leather wrap, condition that as well.

When Something Breaks

Quality leather goods can be repaired. If a fall tears or a handle wrap loosens, reach out to Doug at Doug@floggers.com before throwing anything away. What is broken can usually be fixed.
